Voice of Democracy
Join us for the prestigious Voice of Democracy event! High school students nationwide will showcase their talents as they compete for over $2 million in scholarships by creating thought-provoking audio essays on the theme, “What are the greatest attributes of our Democracy?” An inspiring celebration of patriotism and academic excellence.
Patriot’s Pen
Join the VFW-sponsored nationwide youth essay competition, where students can express their patriotic views on an annual theme. Over 73,000 participants took part last year. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this inspiring event!
Youth Essay
Each year, students in grades 3-5 enter the Department of Washington Youth Essay contest for a chance to win state awards.
The contest encourages our youth to examine history, along with their own beliefs, by drafting an essay of no more than 250 words, expressing their views based on a theme chosen by the Department of Washington VFW. To submit your essay, find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31.
Teacher of the Year
Join us for a special event honoring the invaluable contribution of our nation’s veterans. Witness the culmination of the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program, where exceptional educators share their innovative approaches to teaching history and instilling a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans.
