In Memory of Sister Verna Mines

Arlington, WA – On March 23, 2023, the Boyer-Daniel Post 1561 lost a prominent member of Auxiliary, Verna Mines.

Born on September 13, 1940, in Minnesota and a daughter of father who was U.S. Marine who served as a WWII and Korean War Veteran. She was twice married and had five Children.

She was a very active member in VFW Post 1561 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #76 for 43 years and held positions within the District 1 Auxiliary. Verna organized and participated in countless food drives, baked good sales, clothing collections and many other activities for our Veterans and active service members. Verna was proud to serve our troops and loved working side by side with others to accomplish this.

Aside from her dedication to the Post, Verna was very active with her family. Verna had a strong relationship with her mom as a child growing up and later enjoyed her time with her children and Grandchildren over the years.

Verna was a Seahawks and Mariners fan and enjoyed crochet. She would make Afghans for her friends and relatives.

Verna loved being around people and her work ethic for others was second to none.

Verna was preceded in death by Carl and Edna Nordine (parents), her husband Wally, her brother Ray, her sister Carrie, and her daughter Tina Kellogg. Verna is survived by her brothers John (Carol), Mike (Beth), and Larry (Linda); her children Robert Kellogg (Valerie), Samantha Post (Tim), John Kellogg (Kristina), and Karl M Kellogg (Steven); eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Verna was loved by her family as well as by those she met and worked with. Verna will be missed.

Verna was laid to rest in the Arlington Cemetery (Arlington, WA) on July 28, 2023.
